SJUW Recognized for Efforts Following Hurricane Isaac

St. John United Way was recognized at the annual meeting of the American Red Cross Southeast Louisiana on June 19, 2013, for its contributions and community partnership following Hurricane Isaac.

SJUW provided a $15,000 emergency contribution to the Red Cross in September 2012 to assist with funding emergency services mobilized in St. John Parish after the storm.  These services included a shelter at the St. John Community Center, food, water and supplies distributed to those in need.

United Way Calls on Louisiana Residents to Help Save 2-1-1

Louisiana Association of United Ways recently launched a state-wide campaign to help fund and save their 2-1-1 service - an easy to remember number that connects callers to information about critical health and human services available in their community.

Due to recent budget cuts, Governor Jindal signed a bill (RS 47:120.111) that will allow Louisiana residents to donate a portion of their tax returns to help keep 2-1-1 going.

Local Volunteers Are Needed For EDOH Rebuilding Project

Eight Days of Hope, a nonprofit, faith-based organization committed to rebuilding homes affected by natural disasters is partnering with St. John United Way and the St. John Parish Long-Term Recovery Group to lead a major rebuilding effort of over 100 homes affected by Hurricane Isaac in St. John Parish from March 9 to March 16, 2013.

Hundreds of skilled volunteers from across the nation are expected to descend on the parish to provide the rebuilding assistance. Homes will be selected following case management conducted by various volunteer agencies.
